A
minimum of two 8x8 ft tarps and line to tie them down will
satisfy this gear requirement; something more substantial such as
the
Hilleberg
Rajd ultralight tent is what we're suggesting -- New England weather is very unpredictable!
To be more specific, we're defining a tent as something with a sewn-in floor. So either 2 8x8ft tarps
or a tent w/ a sewn-in floor. A 2-person tent will be permitted for a 2 person team. A 2-person tent will
be permitted for a 3 person team. A 3-person tent will be permitted for a 4 person team.

Satellite Phone |
1 per team
|
Due to the remote "deep country" nature of this course, each team must carry
an activated Iridium satellite phone during the entire race. This is
for safety and emergency purposes only; using a satellite phone
for any other purpose is grounds for disqualification from the event.
One source for
online
satellite phone rentals is here; cost is around $10/day.
An Iridium phone is required (not Globalstar), as reception will
be much better over the race area with Iridium.
You're welcome to use your own satellite phone or another rental provider,
just be sure to have your phone number available at the race check-in and
make sure the unit is activated for the race. |

Rope Gear Notes:
The ropes course includes ascending and the race organization will provide the
ascenders, leg loops, and attachments for the ascenders. Teams need not bring their own ascenders, but
teams are welcome to bring their own if they have them (but you will be responsible for carrying them).
Competitors will complete a rope safety and skills test during the race check-in Thursday morning. Individuals
may choose to skip the ropes course and incur a 3 hour penalty per person.
Paddle Gear Notes:
The race organization will provide sufficient watercraft, PFDs, and
paddles for the race according to the following schedule:
- 4-Person Teams: 1 canoe, 1 kayak, 4 PFDs, 4 paddles
- 3-Person Teams: 1 canoe, 1 kayak, 3 PFDs, 3 paddles
-
2-Person Teams: 1 canoe, 2 PFDs, 2 paddles
Teams are welcome to bring additional paddles, pfds, and canoe seats but it will be your responsibility
to fit them into your allotted 30 pound gear bins/duffels or plan to carry them as needed.
We will not be transporting additional paddle gear beyond what fits into the gear bin/duffel requirements.
